Kelsey Smith Act
Governor Mark Parkinson endorsed the Kelsey Smith Act today with a public ceremony in Topeka with the Smith Family, Representative Rob Olson, Senator Pat Apple, and representatives from AT&T and Sprint present.
The law is the first of its kind in the United States and requires cell phone companies to release location information to law enforcement when they have determined a person is at serious risk of bodily injury or loss of life.
Other states have shown interest in the legislation. The Kelsey Smith Foundation and the Smith Family will work to facilitate passage of similar legislation in other states.
Thank you to all who supported this effort and who support the Kelsey Smith Foundation. A special thanks to Representative Rob Olson for sponsoring the bill and seeing it through the process.
