In Minnesota, the Kelsey Smith Act, continued to move toward passage. HF 2639, the House version of the bill, was referred to the Civil Justice Committee with a recommendation to pass.

SF 2470, the Senate version of the bill, cleared the Judiciary Committee and had it's second reading in the Senate.

The bill continues to pick up additional sponsors as it goes through the process.

The Kelsey Smith Act passed Final Reading today in the Nebraska Unicameral by a vote of 46-0-3. It has been presented to the governor for signing.

HB 2226 - AN ACT concerning criminal procedure; relating to grand juries; amend- ing K.S.A. 22-3001 and repealing the existing section. is a bill sponsored by Rep Lance Kinzer (R-Olathe). This bill would make it easier for County District Attorneys to convene a grand jury to hear the most heinous of cases. The bill passed the Kansas House of Representatives on Feb.15, 2010 and was sent to the Senate for consideration. It was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Feb.

The Kelsey Smith Foundation will conduct a Safety Awareness Seminar for the Freshman class at Shawnee Mission West High School, 8800 West 85th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212 on April 8, 2010 at 1:30 PM.

LB 735, the Nebraska Kelsey Smith Act, was placed on Final Reading on March 9, 2010. This is the third and last stage at which a bill is considered by the entire Legislature. The clerk reads the entire bill aloud, unless final reading is waived, and senators vote without debate on whether to submit the bill to the governor.
